KC's Premiere Plein Air Event Turns 11!

(September 16th, 17th and 18th, 2022)

Our Nocturne Event at the Brookside Art Fair (2021) and Sponsor Leda Gipson (Lexitas) with Purchase Award Winner Laney Haake and her oil painting

BCAW2021 is currently on display at Lexitas Legal Services (1608 Locust)

During the weekend of September 17th-19th, 2021, Brush Creek Art Walk celebrated our 10th Anniversary with a 3-day weekend of Outdoor Painting or En Plein Air. Over 57 registered artists were encouraged to participate in all three of our $500 (sponsored) Quick Paint Events. The resulting 100+ original painting submissions were on display at the Anita B. Gorman Conservation Discovery Center (4750 Troost) through the months of October-February. The remaining 60+ works have been on display since February at the 1608 Locust Gallery (now Lexitas Legal Services) in the Crossroads. (See all of the 90+ Submissions of BCAW2021 Artists)

We were able to have our 10th Annual Awards Ceremony held in person rather than virtually at the Discovery Center on Monday, September 27th, 2021. During the 1-hour Awards Event over 19 ribbons including 10 Honorable Mentions and 9 cash awards were presented along with the works. Judges notes were read to support their decision making in the presentation of these awards.

Getting these remaining works in front of the public and in a significant enough gallery space has been a struggle, but the works will remain available online and for sale virtually through the Buttonwood Art Space

(to purchase BCAW2022 works online via BAS website).

In planning this year's 2022 11th Annual Event, I would argue this is now, without a doubt, Kansas City's Premiere Outdoor Painting Competition. Expecting a minimum of 50+ Artists to pre-register by the start of our event weekend, I look forward to seeing those of you 'regulars' and some new faces as well.

Please check back to this website for updates regarding scheduled events for your calendars, registration information and sponsorship information. 100% of our registration fees go toward supporting the Awards given during this event. Our $500 Sponsorship's provide awards to the winning Quick Paint artists in each of those listed events – with more artist submission opportunities planned during our 3-day event weekend.

We look forward to seeing Artists and the Public alike during our Quick Paint Events:

  • Friday (Sept. 16th) "Nocturne at the Nichols Fountain" (47th and JCNichols Parkway) 7pm to 10pm with judging at 9:45

  • Saturday (Sept. 17th) "Day at the Discovery Center" (4750 Troost) 10am to 1pm with judging at 1pm. Lunch will be provided for ALL registered artists.

  • Sunday (Sept. 18th) "Eastside Sunset" at the Brush Creek Community Center (3801 Emanuel Cleaver Blvd/east parking lot) 5pm to 8pm with judging at 7:45pm. This will conclude our 3-day weekend of painting...and then it's "on with the show"!

  • Awards ceremony is currently scheduled for Tuesday, Oct. 4th at the Anita B. Gorman Discovery Center from 6pm to 8pm.
